Sip Gateway
VoIP Phones differ from regular phones because they have an ethernet port through which it communicates directly with a server, gateway, or another VoIP phone. Since the phone is able to communicate with Voice Over Internet Protocol via the ethernet port, it does not require a connection to a computer to make or receive calls. The phone can be used independently and all that is required is a broadband or DSL internet connection.
This means that you can take the phone any where you want (even outside of your country), hook it up to any broadband connection, and you still will be able to use the phone. Any one can call you without any extra charges because the number goes with the phone, much like with a cell phone.
Many people like to use software based VoIP services because they can see the person that they are talking to through their webcam…but this new technology has made it possible for technicians to build VoIP video phones where you can talk to and see the other person without the need of a computer.
Not all VoIP service providers sell video phones. If you plan on purchasing VoIP service through a cable company then you can forget about being able to use a video phone, because at the time of this article, I do not know of a cable company that sells VoIP video phones.
Voice Over Internet Protocol service providers such as Packet8, 5 Linx (Globalinx), and ACN, offer video phones with excellent picture quality.
